Amongst the chaos at the West Australian Ironman Triathlon

The West Australian Ironman Triathlon consists of a 3.8km swim, a 180km bike ride, and a 42km marathon run. Winners will finish the race in 9 hours or so, and the cutoff time is at 17 hours. It has been held at Busselton West Australia for the past 10 years.

The morning was crisp but the water was like glass and the temp warm. So it was then I decided I would do it differently (I normally shoot the 1500 competitor swim start from the pier) and take out the Nikon 1 J2 and the WP-N1 housing for a dip. I wanted to get in amongst the perspective of the athlete. It was still quite dark as the sun was beginning to peek over the horizon. But the Nikon 1 J2 handled these low conditions so well.

I positioned myself to the right of the start to frame the only clouds in the sky with their golden glow.

When the 1500 competitors finally got the gun to go, I found myself amongst the chaos, got myself very very wet, and I then rushed off to dry land and to the media room to see what pretty pics I had. The quality of the images were soooo good, they were used BIG at the Awards dinner on Monday.
