As part of my 10 year Popculture Photoproject, I decided to take some of Australia’s most dedicated cosplayers into the studio for some fun. Fun with each other and with various popculture icons. I put some of my personality into these images; I wanted laughter and I wanted people to smile when they viewed the images.
Yet, costumeplay is a very important hobby for this wonderful group of people. It allows them to display their love for the characters they portray, and it offers an escape. They bring a fictional person to life. Their attention to detail in making costumes has to be seen to be believed.
It took weeks to plan. And the shoot went over 10 hours. I was physically spent at the end of the day. But I had the biggest grin on my face when I laid my head on the pillow.
Watch the video below for a peak behind the scenes of the 10 hour day. I decided I give timelapse movie mode on the Nikon D4 (with AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm 2.8 ED) a go for the first time. I made a couple of mistakes such as exposure (Steven Spielberg I am not) but it gives you an idea of my fun day.
