In partnership with Surfing Australia, we’re thrilled to reveal the winners of the 2013 Nikon Surf Photo & Movie of the Year.
These awards are hotly contested by the cream of Australia’s surf photographers and filmmakers, who constantly raise the bar in their pursuit of quintessential surf imagery.
Previous winners include Jon Frank, Stuart Gibson and Jeremy Wilmotte, whose work is published and celebrated worldwide. The award criteria defines that the photo can be taken anywhere around the world by an Australian photographer, and can represent action, water, lifestyle, lineup or portrait photography.
The Nikon Surf Movie of the Year Award celebrates the best feature-length surf movie released in 2012 filmed, produced or directed by an Australian citizen or resident.
This year’s awards have again shown the calibre of surf photography and film production in Australia, which made the judging process a very tough one. The select panel of judges certainly had their work cut out trying to choose the winner!
Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark says, “This year’s nominations really portrayed the outstanding photographic and film content being produced from within the Australian surf community. Our sport and lifestyle has such a natural fit with photography and movies and the Nikon Photo and Movie Awards are a great celebration of the best of the best for the past year.”
