Nikon Surf Photo & Nikon Surf Movie of the Year Finalists Announced

In partnership with Surfing Australia, Nikon are pleased to announce the finalists for the 2013 Nikon Surf Photo and Nikon Surf Movie of the Year awards, as part of the Australian Surfing Awards.

The Nikon Surf Photo of the Year and Nikon Surf Movie of the Year awards showcases the finest work taken by Australia’s best surf photographers and filmmakers during the past 12 months.

The Nikon Surf Photo of the Year is a prestigious award recognising the ‘best of the best’ in the Australian surfing photography industry and is awarded for the best single surfing-themed image taken during 2012. While the image must be taken by an Australian photographer, the photo can be taken anywhere around the world and can be drawn from action, water, lifestyle, lineup or portrait photography.

The Nikon Surf Movie of the Year Award celebrates the best feature-length surf movie released in 2012 and filmed, produced or directed by an Australian citizen or resident.

The finalists for the Nikon Surf Movie of the Year are, ‘Dear Suburbia’, ‘Immersion’ and ‘Storm Surfers 3D’. To view the movie trailers click here.

The winners of the Nikon Surf Photo and Nikon Surf Movie of the Year awards will be announced at the Australian Surfing Awards on 20th February in Sydney. The winner of the Nikon Surf Photo of the Year award will win a Nikon D4 and the winner of the Nikon Surf Movie of the Year award will win a Nikon D800 plus $2,000 RRP worth of lenses and accessories.

Rising Star Award:

Waterman of the Year Award:
Mark Mathews, Jamie Mitchell, Jeff Rowley

Australian Surf Business Surfing Spirit Award:
Misfit Aid, Quiksilver Foundation, Russell Molony

Peter Troy Lifestyle Award:
Pam Burridge, Jeremy “Wire” Curtain, Bob Smith

Surf Culture Award:
The Reef by the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Tura New Music, Australian Open of Surfing, White Horses Magazine

Simon Anderson Club Award:
Kirra Surfriders Club, LE-BA Boardriders Club, Noosa Malibu Club
