2018 Nikon Surf Photo of the Year and Surf Video of the Year Awards Finalists Announcement

In partnership with Surfing Australia, Nikon is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2018 Nikon Surf Photo and Nikon Surf Video of the Year Awards.

The Nikon Surf Photo of the Year and Nikon Surf Video of the Year awards showcases the finest work taken by Australia’s best surf photographers and filmmakers during the past 12 months.

Nikon Surf Photo of the Year Award 2018

The Nikon Surf Photo of the Year Award is a prestigious award recognising the best single surfing-themed image taken during 2017 by an Australian photographer, with strict criteria including dramatic effect, sensory impact, composition, innovation and creativity. The photo can be taken anywhere around the world and can be drawn from action, water, lifestyle, line up or portrait photography. This year presented some outstanding entries featuring the best-of-the-best in Australian surfing photography.

Nikon Surf Video of the Year Award 2018

The Nikon Surf Video of the Year Award celebrates the best surf video or film, of any length or format, made by an Australian resident in 2017. The finalists for the 2018 Nikon Surf Video of the Year are:

Maurice Cole: The First Wave by Peter Baker

The Big Wave Project by Tim Bonython

The Church of the Open Sky by Nathan Oldfield

The winners of the Nikon Surf Photo and Nikon Surf Video of the Year awards will be announced the evening of 6 March 2018.

Winners of either category will receive a prize pack from Nikon worth over $6,800 – which will include the new Nikon D850 and a NIKKOR AF-S 24-120mm f/4G ED VR.
