Reviewer Jake Anderson said:

I am biased towards Nikon, I’ll admit it. Everyone has their preferences though and mine has nothing to do with specs or dynamic range. Megapixels or frames per second.

I was given a Nikon as a present in my late teens and from then on Nikon has provided me with one of the loves of my life. A tool in which to express myself. My Nikons have been there for a lot of my fondest memories and experiences and they’re just a vital part of my life now days.

I think you can imagine how insanely excited I was when Nikon contacted me and offered their support. I’ll give you an idea, just incase you’re not grasping the magnitude of this! Nikon like my work-MIND BLOWN!

I was recently asked to play around with the compact J5, already owning a Nikon1 AW1 alongside my dslrs I was excited to get the chance to experiment with this little camera, I feel like these are exciting new fronts for people just beginning to find the love for capturing images, for travellers with limited space or as a side kick to a photographer. They aren’t in the realms of the DSLRs and their glass, but man big things really do come in small packages.

Finding my way through the main menu wasn’t a problem and after about 20mins I had it pretty much mapped out and was playing with all the functions.

The size was a massive tick for me, it fits in most of my jacket pockets so I always had it within easy reach. It bought back a lot of beginner joy for me as I was always looking for something to shoot with it.

All the functions are really simple and the dials in manual are so easy to work. It seriously is a really top little camera and I think anyone looking for a great all-rounder should definitely consider something like this.

Its raw file size is 20mb it shoots 4k video (the only Nikon currently doing that) it handles dynamic range like my D800 and its just really fun to use. Plus it looks awesome! (That does matter by the way), I was genuinely blown away with this little camera, and I’ll be honest, I was excited to use it but it still blew my expectations away.

It’s the perfect little side kick for anyone really.
