Take your ambitions further with the NIKKOR AF-S 180-400mm f/4E TC1.4 FL ED VR – a high-performance, super-telephoto zoom lens that will support your professional needs in any situation.
At the flick of a switch, the standard 180-400mm range expands to 560mm with the convenience of a built-in 1.4x teleconverter (TC) – perfect for covering subjects of ranging distances easily on the field.
A fluorine lens coating provides added dust and drip resistance, assuring high antifouling performance. The optical design provides exceptionally clear images with minimised ghosting and unwanted flare – plus improved autofocus (AF) tracking and evolved Vibration Reduction (VR) performance deliver faster and more precise image focus.
Weighing in at just 3.5kg and complemented by a handy grip, this lens will quickly become a staple in your kit wherever you go.
The ultimate agility
Perform in the field with the ability to capture both near and distant subjects using a single lens. Covering 180-400mm focal length, with an expanded 20mm on the wide-angle side1, a single touch extends the range up to 252-560mm2 using the built-in 1.4x TC. For greater distances, attach the lens to a DX-format camera and achieve the focal length equivalent to a 270-600mm lens in 35mm format, and 378-840mm using the built-in TC.

Capture the finest details
Every minute detail is yours to capture, with the highest maximum reproduction ratio of 0.25x3 at the minimum focus distance of 2m throughout the entire zoom range. Optimised perfectly for high-megapixel digital cameras, achieve high-resolution images across the entire frame regardless of focal length – even at maximum aperture or when stopped down.
Nano Crystal Coat is utilised to retain high transmittance and crafted with 27 elements in 19 groups (including eight lens elements for TC) and a single protective glass – including a fluorite lens element and eight ED glass elements for absolute clarity.

Speed up with the latest technology
Upgrades like the higher-speed inversion AF drive and an enhanced drive control algorithm for the AF motor create more accurate subject tracking based on AF detection. The high subject acquisition capability, even in the peripheral areas of the frame4, is boosted further with the evolved VR effect equivalent to a shutter speed 4.0 stops5 faster regardless of the built-in TC usage. With VR [SPORT] mode in effect, keeping up with the quick and spontaneous subject movement for easier framing is a feat that you’ll appreciate.

Heavy-duty functions in a light and compact frame
Sharing common operability with the NIKKOR AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR focus function buttons6 with the same specifications, the NIKKOR AF-S 180-400mm f/4E TC1.4 FL ED VR offers greater versatility in a lighter frame.
Simple design upgrades include a smaller and lighter tripod collar with bearings integrated within the collar ring, and a redesigned zoom ring location for a more natural and comfortable use. Its superb weather resistance7 provides both performance and peace of mind in the field.

1 As compared to the NIKKOR AF-S 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II.
2 When using the built-in teleconverter, the maximum aperture becomes f/5.6.
3 High reproduction ratio of 0.25x at minimum focus distance of 2m at the telephoto end when built-in teleconverter is not used; 0.36x with the built-in teleconverter.
4 When attached to the D5, D850, or D500, focus points located at outer areas of the 153-point autofocus system can be used as cross sensors for easier subject acquisition regardless of built-in teleconverter usage. (Note: this feature will be available with firmware to be released successively.)
5 Based on CIPA Standards.
6 Functions such as “AF-area mode switching” can be assigned (available with higher-class DSLRs including the D4S and later models).
7 The lens body including movable parts and other sections is designed considering dust- and drip-resistant performance to protect the inside of the lens against dust and water droplets.
