24.2 megapixels without OLPF

Experience outstanding DSLR image quality with 24.2 effective megapixels for amazingly sharp yet subtle details and smooth, natural skin tones. The new Nikon DX-format CMOS image sensor is designed without an optical low-pass filter (OLPF) to render images that are closest to what your NIKKOR lenses see.

Nikon’s latest EXPEED 4 image-processing engine features unique technology, and can process countless operations at lightning-fast speeds to produce images of exceptional quality and exquisite color. And shooting in low light or interior environments takes on a new light thanks to the standard ISO sensitivity range of 100 to 12800 (25,600 extendable).

Built-in Wi-Fi

Taken a great shot? With the D5300, you can share it in an instant, courtesy of built-in Wi-Fi. Just pick the images you want to download while you shoot and they will be ready to transfer to your smartphone or tablet at the push of a button. No need for wires or attachments; all you need is your camera and your smart device.

Built-in GPS

Give your photography a greater sense of place with the D5300’s built-in GPS function. You can store location information like latitude, longitude, altitude and UTC (Universal Coordinated Time). You can even map your travel route using the GPS logger function.

39-point AF

The D5300’s viewfinder has an incredible 39 focus points that capture moments faster and clearer than ever before. With a variety of autofocus options including Single-point AF, Dynamic-area AF, 3D-tracking, Auto-area AF and an improved Subject-tracking AF, you can get the shot you want.

2016-pixel RGB sensor

With an incredibly accurate 2016-pixel RGB sensor and Nikon’s exclusive Scene Recognition System, the D5300 analyses and calculates the precise exposure, flash, autofocus and white balance, all before the click of the shutter.

The D5300’s high-speed continuous shooting at approx. 5 fps delivers more opportunities to catch the right movement or expression. The clear, high-quality optical viewfinder of the D5300 lets you easily compose a shot while tracking fast-moving subjects.

3.2″ Vari-angle monitor

The D5300 features a versatile vari-angle LCD monitor so you can compose shots with greater ease, and when filming movies. The monitor opens horizontally from 0° to 180° and can flip up and down from +180° to -90°, and view the image across the entire monitor at full image display.

Full HD D-Movies

The D5300 is also capable of filming Full HD D-Movies at 1920 x 1080. And with 60p, you get smooth recording, even when shooting fast-moving subjects. The D5300’s in-camera effects and editing features add even more flexibility, letting you create clips and short films as you shoot.

Improved video autofocus

The D5300 delivers fast, accurate autofocus during video shooting, thanks to improved Subject-tracking AF and Full-time-servo AF (AF-F) that keep your subjects in sharp focus as they move.

HDR/Active D-Lighting

When the contrast between the brightest and darkest areas is high, the D5300’s HDR mode delivers a more dramatic effect and works best with landscapes and stationary subjects, while Active D-Lighting is effective with general high-contrast subject matter, including people or moving subjects.

Retouch Menu

The D5300 is equipped with a number of in-camera editing functions that make image retouching easy. The new D-lighting feature, “portrait subjects”, enhances the exposure of up to three human subjects while keeping the natural ambience of low-lit backgrounds.

Scene Modes

You can automatically choose the best camera settings with the D5300, to give you the results you want. Frequently used Scene Modes such as Portrait and Landscape can be directly selected using the mode dial. For other modes such as Sunset, Dusk/Dawn and Food, set the mode dial to SCENE and select the mode by rotating the command dial.

Photo Review

Wi-Fi has been implemented nicely and is reasonably easy to set up and use. Connected generation photographers will appreciate the built-in Wi-Fi, while travellers could enjoy the integrated GPS functions.

Camera Magazine

Nikon Spruces up its entry level D-SLR….a new APS-C sensor does away with an optical low-pass filter (LPF) in order to maximise its 24.7 megapixels (total) resolution….and full HD video recording is now possible at 50fps progressive scan (rather than interlaced) to give an improved picture quality.

There are no images to show for the D5300 just yet.
