Crowds lined up in the rain to hear Christian Blanchard talk at the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2010 Nikon Fashion Photography Workshops. In standing-room only sessions he demonstrated practical applications of fashion photography fundamentals.

Christian Blanchard is a freelance photographer and film director. Capture Magazine recently named him one of Australia’s top ten. He strives to strike the balance between creative expression and commercial acumen, both of which are key to his success. His local and international clients include Mimco, Amstel, Nobody Denim, Nintendo, L’Oreal Paris and Puma.

Aware of the impact the fashion industry can have on perception and body image, Christian actively seeks ways to give back to the community – whether it’s supporting animal liberation campaigns through his images or joining other Nikon Professional Photographers to create a volume of images to support Surf Life Saving Australia. Throwing dirty water on celebrities for the famed ‘Nobody was Thirsty’ campaign is indicative of Blanchard’s breakthrough approach that has seen him win international acclaim.

Christian’s editorial work includes covers for international magazines such as Fashion Trend, Kurv and Spook magazine.

His Nikon kit contains not just the tools of his trade, but his camera of choice. As a Nikon School lecturer he teaches and inspires budding fashion photographers through the creative shooting process, from initial concept to production logistics.
