‘Where I Live’ Photography Assignment

FotoFreo is an eagerly anticipated event in the world of photography held every two years in the city of Fremantle, WA. A month-long festival, FotoFreo 2012 will feature the work of leading photographers from Australia, Asia, Europe & North America along with a series of workshops, films and floor talks – all designed to promote and discuss everything and anything about photography.

One of the exhibitions we’re looking forward to seeing most is the winners of the FotoFreo 2012 ‘WA Life’ Photographic Competition. Giving photographers the chance to celebrate the things that make living in WA special, it’s a must see.

As a sponsor and supporter of FotoFreo (and in the spirit of the WA Life ‘hometown celebration’ theme), Nikon are excited to announce our latest photo assignment – ‘Where I Live’.

We’re inviting you to get involved and show us through your photography just what it is that makes your hometown special. The ‘Where I Live’ photography assignment is open to all My Nikon Life members, no matter where you are in Australia (you do not need to live in WA to enter).

The Prize

Nikon will send you and a friend to be our ‘correspondent’ for 7 days at FotoFreo 2012. As official Nikon volunteers at the FotoFreo festival, you will have full access to all workshops, exhibitions and events during your time in Fremantle. The winner will be the eyes and ears of the My Nikon Life community at FotoFreo. Equipped with a Nikon V1 kit for the stay, you can shoot videos and stills in and around the festival.

The winner’s work will then be profiled on My Nikon Life as we share the festival with the community through the eyes of Nikon’s correspondent. The winner can also bring a guest to share the experience of being in Fremantle during this exciting festival – together they’ll enjoy full volunteer access. The prize includes return economy flights to Perth for the winner and a friend from any Australian capital city, airport to Fremantle transfers and six nights accommodation for two in Fremantle.

The Brief

The ‘Where I Live’ photography assignment invites you to show us through your photography, your hometown.

Your challenge is to capture the character of your city or its people. Maybe it’s the playing field where you scored your first goal. A statue of the town’s founders, the buildings, the people… anything that you believe makes your town what it is or what makes it special to you. Upload between 1 and 5 photos that you believe captures the character of your town.

We’ll be judging entries based on the following criteria:

  • Quality of image: for example composition and lighting
  • The judge’s emotional reaction: laughter, surprise, disbelief
  • Immersion: make us feel like we’re there sharing the moment

Who can enter?

If you’re a member of My Nikon Life and you have a story of where you live that you want to tell through your photography, you qualify. It doesn’t matter if you own a Nikon or not and you don’t have to be a professional photographer with a DSLR, we’re looking for shots that express your creativity and passion for photography.
