When Melbourne celebrates NYE, Nikon will be there to capture the action. The prize for this assignment puts you, and your images, in at the centre of Melbournes New Years Eve celebrations. Get ready to see the city of Melbourne in a whole new light.
h2. The Brief
The change from day to night for most people represents a shift in mood and anticipation for what the night will bring. For the â€˜Into the Night assignment were asking you to capture those distinct moments when day transitions to night, with up to 3 images that allow the viewer to feel that moment with you. We will be paying particular attention to how you deal with challenging low light conditions, so this may test your technical skills!
h2. Who can enter?
Own a camera? You qualify! We want everyone to be able to enter this assignment it doesnt matter if you own a Nikon or not we want to celebrate photography. You dont have to be a professional photographer with a DSLR; were looking for your creativity and passion for photography.
h2. The Prize
Join David Simmons, the official city of Melbourne photographer, on a whirlwind tour of the city as you capture the celebrations.
Included in the prize is:
- Before 31st December, 2010 David Simmonds, the official photographer, will brief you giving you an idea of what to expect. You’ll also be briefed on the equipment you’ll use on the night. As with all Nikon DSLRs, the kit that you use will have exceptional capabilities to capture stunning images in low light you’ll be amazed by the detail your camera can pick up!
- On 31st December, 2010 Meet at the Family Festival in Yarra Park. Under the guidance of David Simmonds, you’ll take brilliant, colourful shots of the high-spirited celebrations with roving performers, carnival rides, children’s activities and workshops, well-known headline artists on the main stage then watch as the festival lights up with a fireworks display at 9.15pm. After night falls, you’ll be in the heart of the action to capture the best images of the night-time party atmosphere as the city winds up to welcome 2011. As midnight gets closer you’ll be in a prime rooftop position, capturing uninterrupted shots of the spectacular fireworks display.
- Early January 2011 Meet with David Simmonds again, have a post-event catch up to review your images together, get feedback and assist with post production where required.
This experience is not for the weary-footed or faint-hearted it will be high adrenalin, fast action as you join the professionals to document the city of Melbourne in the final hours of 2010 and early hours of 2011.
A condition of accepting the prize is that you will need to organise you own travel arrangements to and from the meeting point in central Melbourne.
