The Camera GP2012 Camera of the Year award is presented to the best still camera released on the Japanese market between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012. This is the seventh time Nikon has received a Camera Grand Prix” Camera of the Year award”.

The Readers Award was selected through online voting by general users between March 20 and April 10, 2012.
With the selection of the D800 this year, Nikon digital cameras have received the Readers Awards four times in the past five years, proving just how highly regarded the cameras are by a large number of users.

Entries for the prestigious 2012 Nikon-Walkley Young Australian Press Photographer of the Year Award are now open.

Have you produced an outstanding photojournalistic image (or set of images) in the past year? Do you want to be recognised as the best emerging talent in your field?

Then don’t miss your chance to be crowned the 2012 Nikon-Walkley Young Australian Press Photographer of the Year.

Proudly sponsored by Nikon and presented by the Walkley Foundation and the Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance, this award recognises excellence in young photojournalists aged 26 and under. It celebrates the ability of young photographers to tell a story through their images.

Who can enter?

This award is open to ALL Australian photojournalists aged 26 and under (on March 16, 2012), whether you’re employed full-time or freelance. And even if you’re in your final year at uni you can enter too!

How to enter

Entrants need to submit up to THREE images, where a minimum of one image must have been published or broadcast through Australian media outlets between March 16, 2011 and March 16, 2012. The deadline for entries is 5pm, 16 March 2012.

Judging and awards ceremony

The judging panel will draw up a shortlist of three finalists before selecting the winner who will be announced at a special event in Sydney on Wednesday 27 June, 2012.

As an entrant in the 2012 Nikon-Walkley Young Australian Press Photographer of the Year Awards, you will automatically be in consideration to win the title of the 2012 Walkley Young Australian Journalist of the Year.

As winner of this prestigious title, you‘ll jet off on a three-week trip visiting newsrooms at CNN in Atlanta, valued at $5,000.

Tropfest 20th Birthday festival

Tropfest has announced a massive prize pool of $100,000 for its 20th Birthday festival – screened live around the nation this Sunday 19 February.

The 2012 winner will not only get the kudos of winning the world’s largest short film festival, they will also walk away with a Nikon D800 and lens prize pack up to the value of $6,000RRP from Nikon, the Official Camera and Lens partner of Tropfest. The Nikon D800, the Official Camera of Tropfest, is our latest full frame multi-format 1080p Full HD D-Movie recording DSLR with 36.3 mp. With a 36.3 megapixel CMOS sensor, 51-point auto-focus system, a native ISO range of 100 - 6400, and the ability to shoot broadcast quality videos at 1080p HD, you can take your photography to the next level.

And the new features of the Nikon D800 don’t end there. It's also equipped with a 3.2 inch 921k-dot LCD monitor, EXPEED 3 image processing engine and 4fps continuous shooting in FX mode - 7 fps in DX mode. The new Advanced Scene Recognition System with 91K-pixel RGB sensor is also included, with a high-precision, high-durability shutter – tested to well over 200,000 shutter cycles.

In addition, multi-award winning film-maker Jason Van Genderen (Tropfest New York winner 2008 and Tropfest Australia runner up 2011) will be on hand at the ‘Tropfest Roughcuts’ Symposium as Nikon’s special guest speaker. He will be showcasing his latest short film shot exclusively for the ‘Tropfest Roughcuts’ Symposium on the Nikon D4. In this 45 minute DSLR film making workshop Jason will show exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, share his insights on DSLR film making and explain how DSLR technology is changing film making as we know it.

Upcoming AIPP event - 'Hair of the dog'

Hair of the Dog is traditionally the first calendar event for professional photographers. It’s a great learning and networking opportunity for people in all sectors of the industry. For AIPP members, this is a Nikon Continuing Professional Development event and accrues points towards professional accreditation. Nikon Australia is proud to support the AIPP ‘Hair of the Dog’ event in Brisbane on 4th – 6th February, 2012.

Announcing the Nikon D4

Nikon is proud to announce the release of the new D4, an FX-format camera that stretches the boundaries of functionality, performance and versatility.

Based on the D3 series with the addition of a number of new functions and features, the D4 opens up an exciting world of new possibilities for professional photographers.

The D4 is equipped with a new Nikon FX-format CMOS image sensor (imaging size of 36.0 × 23.9 mm) and EXPEED 3, the latest image-processing engine specifically optimised for DSLR cameras. With 16.2 million pixels and an ISO range from 50 – 204800, the D4 offers superior image quality under a broad range of lighting conditions.

In addition to the built-in wired LAN features, the D4 also supports high-speed image transfer via wireless LAN when the new, compact, easy-to-use Wireless Transmitter WT-5 (optional) is connected to the camera. This new wireless transmitter and internal Ethernet port mean high-speed communication and image upload is now possible, direct from the camera to an FTP server anywhere in the world.
