A year 11 student from Girton Grammar School in Bendigo has won the secondary student round of The Age Nikon Photo Comp.

A panel of Age photographers judged Zachary Clarke’s photo of an elderly Vietnamese man in Halong Bay, Vietnam, as the best of more than 200 entries from secondary school students across Victoria.

The photos were answering the theme, “When I get older”.

“This photo represents the happiness in life this Vietnamese man has,” read Zachary’s entry. “He paddles around Halong Bay in Vietnam, visiting all the boats coming through these waters. When I get older, I just want to live a life where happiness is always easy to find and live a life overlooking the majestic waters of our great country. This man was more than satisfied with the life he was living. I want to be happy during my lifetime and always do anything I can to make the people around me happy.”

Zachary has won Nikon D5000 camera kit (valued at $1,699) plus a second Nikon kit and photography workshop for his school.
